COP28 priorities: EU countries call for end to fossils

The European Union has presented its priorities for COP28. The focus is, in particular, on avoiding greenhouse gases. This also includes a global phase-out of all fossil fuels – a goal the EU already sought at the last COP in Sharm el-Sheikh, but ultimately failed to push through.

UN High Seas Treaty is also a success for climate action

The new UNCLOS agreement on the protection of the high seas also means progress in climate action: The flora and fauna in the ocean are to be better protected against warming and acidification, and emissions and damage from fishing are to be reduced. The ocean as a carbon sink can also benefit.
